I'm filled with 3DS Brainworms so here's who I think all the Awakening kids would be retainers to if they were in Fates

Lucina/Marth- Xander? Maybe Ryoma if we're doing both countries. I have a hard time seeing her able to relax enough to not be next to the most important people if she had the chance. She'd be Corrin's retainer if that was an option. I kinda like Ryoma more than Xander cuz I'm picturing Saizo saying he doesn't trust 'Marth' because of his mask, without any sense of irony. Also Sakura just because I've seen adorable art of that rarepair and I'm on board.

M!Morgan- Leo, I think Leo and the Morgan's would have a nice dynamic where their presence is both comforting but also elevate Leo's insecurities since the Morgan's are skilled tacticians and his skills aren't as unique.

F!Morgan- Leo/Xander. Maybe Leo's official retainer but bothers Xander. I picture like once a week she has a presentation on the health benefits of killing your father or how to depose a tyrant. Never explicitly saying Xander should commit regicide but one can infer her meaning. Definitely way less subtle than her twin clone. Probably taking the most advantage of the "you fire one of us the others quit" vibe the Awakening kids have. Banned from visiting Corrin in the Northern Fortress.

Cynthia- Camilla, Camilla claimed her before they even proved their worth as fighters. Camilla would adore her and her dynamic with Beruka would be hilarious. She's also friends with Arthur, they need constant supervision together in case something goes horribly wrong.

Brady- Leo, I need him complaining about Leo sleeping at his desk and studying to exhaustion. Do ya wanna a hunchback like him?

Noire- Leo/Camilla. She's incredibly knowledgeable about magic despite being too frail to use it herself, pokes over Leo's shoulder and points out a mistake while bringing him a new cup of tea. Drives Leo up the walls. But also not all that confident and frail, Camilla just snaps her right up. The kind of person that Camilla likes most, one's that are dependent on her in some way.

Kjelle- (isn't she already one of Elise's retainers??) Honestly I know Effies personality is different in the Japanese version but since I'm not familiar with that I can only picture Kjelle's interactions being extremely similar to hers. Either Elise or Sakura, give Elise the beginning of a muscular knight Lady army/harem or I think Kjelle would fit in with Hana and Subaki's dynamic and she'd get a laugh out of knocking Subaki off his fly horse.

Laurent- Leo or Takumi, nerds herd together. I think he'd have a better chance of getting a spot with Takumi than most of the others simply because there isn't anything Takumi can hold against him, he's polite, invested in learning as much as he can(which means he'll likely come asking Takumi a lot and deferring to his expertise, playing into the vibe of Takumi's retainers being his fan club with a different reason than Hinata and Oboro, he looks up to Takumi's intelligence) and his outfit doesn't share any similarities to Nohr's fashion, his tits aren't out and he's not wearing black and purple(why I think the Morgan's wouldn't be able to get close to Takumi)

Gerome- Camilla, while he's the exact opposite of Camilla's main swinging range, he's solitary and doesn't react to praise like Severa, he does follow orders and can be a second pair of eyes to baby someone. Most likely on Elise duty any time she goes into the sewer city. Also he and Beruka nod at each other and go do their jobs. Best coworker Beruka's ever had. She leaves to go kill someone for Camilla and has a packed lunch for the way back. Minerva likes Beruka too.

Yarne- Xander or Hinoka, depending on which part of Yarne's cowardlyness you want to play with. Xander trusts Yarne both because despite all his anxiety he's never really the "unfeasible" type of anxiety and he breaks through his cowardlyness to protect those he cares about. A single "What do you think could go wrong" gets Xander a long way. Meanwhile Hinoka's retainers all have the vibe of her feeling the need to protect them instead and Yarne is PEAK failboy. Also play into Hinoka's more gentle and animal loving side with her brushing his rabbit form. Also Yarne/Camilla ship, she knows what she likes and it's a failure she can coddle and Yarne quickly learns that her arms are both the safest and most dangerous place he could possibly be.

Nah- Camilla/Leo/Corrin/Azura. No strong feelings on any of these, I think her dynamic with Camilla would be similar to Severa's where she's a little desperate for approval but to a lesser extent. I think she'd Like Leo but more of a book club/study buddy thing than serving him. I can see her sticking with Corrin in the Northern Fortress for both Dragon and Lilith reasons and I think she'd be a good Lilith-equivalent and friend for Azura, Naga knows she needs someone to talk to about the crazy stuff she knows that she can't tell anyone about.

what if Marshmellow was a reincarnation of Natsu? 👀 how would the three kits react and if they would still love them?

Oh man-- this is a tricky one.

I really think a lot of it comes down to what their relationship was like with Natsu before hand.

So obviously I have my own bias, I have my own version of the way things all played out in my head, but it DOES seem to be the general consensus that Natsu's relationship with everyone was-- at least at one point-- positive.

But the biggest aspects of it all really are going to come down to the nature of those relationships (for instance, your version of Natsu and Fuyu have a father/son dynamic that I can't imagine not getting weir after everything starts to click and marshmallow starts to remember things lol)

but for the sake of argument let's go down two routes--

route 1 is going to be the relationship with everyone was good and positive but not necessarily overly familiar (as non-overly familiar as what is essentially powerful immortal co-workers your stuck with for hundreds of years goes) so basically they know him but no body's like--- DATING or anything

and then route 2 is, regardless of whether or not they were actually dating before hand, there was a closeness there that bordered on the romantic or there was just sparks their otherwise

Also for the sake of all this this isn't like--- a second Natsu. This is not Natsu 2 electric boogaloo, they just have the same spirit and energy about them but Marshmallow is DEF their own individual

So-- all of them, at one point or another, thought it at least once while getting to know you.

'They remind me so much of Natsu.'

And this thought-- it was always a bitter sweet mix of wistful and mourning.

They always chalked it up to a quintessence. In all their years, all 3 have known too many people to not know that some people are just alike. That they have the same energy and way of going through the world. Kindred spirits, and such.

But then comes a time, and the details are ultimately superfluous to the revelation that follows, where it's confirmed that you share the spirit of Natsu quite literally. Through some twist of fate, they have all met and have fallen for Natsu's reincarnation.

And what happens next-- well...

Aki;

Route 1: Aki is actually a little excited to hear that you were a kistune in another life. And even more excited that the summer clan has hope to come back. I think he jokes a bit that you're Natsu (like he calls you Natsu for a bit), but ultimately he knows you're you. And he loves that you. And whatever you decide to do with this new information, he intends to stay by your side. Just, maybe keep your distance from Fuyu...

Route 2: He's actually a weird mix of excitedly relieved and panicked confliction. On the one hand it's very sweet that his first loves soul made it's way back to him and he fell in love with that spirit all over again. But on the other, he was sure he'd finally gotten over that heartbreak, and now that it's all back on his door step he's sort of realizing that whoever you are, either now or before, he never really got over you. One thing is for certain though, Aki just got a whole lot more protective. He's not going through that loss again. And he's DEFINITELY keeping you away from Fuyu.

Haru;

Route 1: He finds it a bit darkly hilarious. Can't keep the spirit of the summer clan down I guess. He wonders a bit if he'd be this resilient if he were in your shoes. Regardless, he is legitimately revealing in the fact that Fuyu's biggest dramatic act of power is being undercut by one lone mortal. This should knock that pompous asshole off his stuck up high horse. Also he has to admit, it is pretty sweet how he was so appealing your spirit just couldn't stay away. ;3 (also if Fuyu thinks he's coming near you he has another thing coming.)

Route 2: He still finds it funny you're undermining Fuyu by existing, and he still finds it romantic that your immortal souls just couldn't stay apart, but he's a lot more worried about what all this means. He's also processing how-- he was definitely heart broken when Natsu died, but they were never anything too deep (at least not yet), so he could mourn and then move on. And he thought he had moved on to you, and he did, but now with this complication, made all the more messy by the fact that he's in so much deeper than he's ever been before-- he's almost certain losing you this time would kill him. He's got a lot of thinking to do... mostly about how you get rid of any winter foxes that may darken your door...

Fuyu; (OH BOY)

Route 1: He is SO. UTTERLY. CONFLICTED. On the one hand your very existence undermines his biggest display of power and magnitude that he has ever managed to accomplish. Not to mention the fact that the spirit of the summer clan lives in you means that they may return-- and they may return in force? Can he do that all again? Can he wipe out the summer clan a second time? No. He couldn't... even if he was physically capable, he no longer has the heart to do so. The amount of regret that weighed on his heart since that day-- it's a weight he couldn't carry again... if for no other reason that you had lifted it off his shoulders. After holding onto it so desperately for so long, after centuries of convincing himself he was ultimately in the right because to be otherwise would make him a monster, he had doubled down. He had become the worst possible version of himself, trying to convince himself that the ends justified the means. But you helped him heal. You helped him move on from the bitterness that he allowed himself to stew in. Helped him cope with the grief he had only himself to blame. Helped him to feel warmth for the first time in who knows how long. After you opened his eyes, he finally felt like himself again. And yet here you were-- standing before him, once again in innocent defiance. But maybe that is why you were here. Maybe this was fate. Maybe this was your way of returning to him to show him true mercy. Forgiveness.

Or maybe this is just another way to torment him. All his love poured into you. And yet any love you give to him feels so undeserved. Maybe he doesn't deserve this forgiveness. This happiness. This relief. Your smile.

Maybe he has a lot to think about...

Route 2: Once he found out, his eyes were locked on you. In a way, his biggest regret had come back to haunt him. His grief had been given human form and came to be his salvation. And as the pieces fall into place he realized how undeserving he is of this all. He drops to his knees in an instant, tears streaming down his face and he heaves out shouted apologies between sobs. His head on the ground before you, begging forgiveness he knows he will never deserve. He can't look at you in the eyes... You were all he had ever wanted, but how is he going to face you...

If you don't mind, could you share some of your thought process on creating Taryn as a character and your favorite aspects of writing her so far? (Can you also give a physical description? I would like to draw her and nesta together and Ive been imagining her as cruel princes' Taryn; which is a little funny to think about)

This is so sweet—and so funny! I’ve read the first Cruel Prince book but didn’t even make the connection to Taryn from that series! That’s hilarious and kind of fitting in its own way, but yes, let me give you more details!

So, Taryn as a character actually came about unexpectedly. She wasn’t someone I initially planned to write; it was going to be just Nesta on her own, focusing on her healing journey. But the more I thought about it, the more I realized that Nesta has never really had someone wholly in her corner—a person who supports her without judgment or an agenda. That gap in her life is what inspired Taryn’s creation.

I wanted someone who could stand alongside Nesta, not to “fix” her, but to offer her unconditional support and the space to be herself. Taryn’s character grew from that idea, and I started with her name, which has so many layered meanings.

• In Irish and Gaelic, it’s tied to “the land of Eoghan” or “people’s ruler,” which felt fitting for someone who would hold her own and guide by example rather than force.

• The connection to rivers and flooding, as in “the trespasser,” reminded me of someone who defies expectations and carves out a path that may disrupt, but ultimately creates growth.

• Then there’s the Latin meaning tied to “earth” or an “elevated place,” which gave her a grounded, steady quality.

One of my favorite aspects of writing Taryn so far is how she knows when to step back and respect Nesta’s autonomy. A perfect example of this is during the Solstice and Nesta’s interactions with the IC—Taryn doesn’t try to insert herself or take over. Instead, she lets Nesta handle things in her own way, at her own pace, without any interference. That respect for boundaries is a cornerstone of who Taryn is, and it’s a deliberate contrast to how other characters have behaved.

For instance, take Rhysand. Even when Feyre explicitly tells him to leave her relationship with Nesta alone, he still tries to control it, inserting his own ideas of what should happen. Or Cassian, who has a pattern of badgering Nesta, pushing her even when it’s clear she’s uncomfortable or not ready to engage with him on his terms. These moments can feel suffocating for Nesta, and I wanted Taryn to be the opposite of that.

Taryn highlights what it truly means to give someone the space to heal and make their own choices. She supports Nesta without demanding anything in return. There’s no pressure to act a certain way, no need to meet someone else’s expectations or timelines. If Nesta decides to set boundaries or push back, Taryn respects that instead of trying to guilt or force her into compliance.

I think that dynamic is so important for Nesta because it offers her something she’s never really had: a connection where she feels safe to be herself without fear of judgment or consequence. And, more than that, it allows her to grow on her own terms. Taryn is there to back her up when needed, but she also knows when to step back and let Nesta lead.

It’s a refreshing contrast to the characters who think they’re helping but end up reinforcing unhealthy patterns instead. Writing Taryn as someone who embodies that quiet, unwavering support has been incredibly rewarding.

Now, onto Taryn’s physical description! She has dark hair—by dark, I mean black—and striking green eyes that stand out against her complexion. Her features are sharp, with high cheekbones.

Taryn’s complexion is on the darker side, with warm, rich undertones that speak to her heritage. Her skin carries a sun-kissed glow, as if she’s spent a significant amount of time under a different sun than Velaris or even the Night Court could provide. It’s a deeper shade, almost like burnished bronze, with a natural radiance that contrasts beautifully against her black hair and sharp features. I’ve hinted at it before, but Taryn isn’t from Velaris or the Night Court.

Taryn typically wears dresses that balance simplicity, emphasizing her. She prefers flowing silhouettes that allow her to move with ease, often crafted from rich fabrics like velvet, silk, or fine linen. Her dresses are usually in deep, earthy tones such as forest green, burnt orange, midnight blue, or warm gold, complementing her complexion and hair.

The designs of her dresses are practical yet stylish—long sleeves for cooler weather or sleeveless options for warmer climates, always tailored to fit her perfectly. High necklines and subtle embroidery along the hems or cuffs add an air of refinement, while the occasional slit in the skirt gives her freedom of movement without being overly revealing.

Dick with Harley? (You could also play off of Joker jr for the angst) peak chaos circus vibes (the joker has disappeared under mysterious circumstances and not even Batman can prove that Dick did anything). Maybe he could be called Jester and do a lot of exposing the upper-class in Gotham. Since Jesters are traditionally the ones that would call out the king etc.

Barbara with Ivy? Killer combo. (I've also written her as a grey hat hacker in one of my fics before, but that feels a little uninspired. Plus in my proposed scenario Joker gets killed early on so even as smart as Babs is, she wouldn't be forced into an admin position, so likely wouldn't be as likely to take one.) One of the Batman cartoons has the two of them be friends before Ivy gets mutated and I love the idea of Babs putting her mega brain toward saving the earth. Pollution would have ended. (I'm also a sucker for DickBabs and HarlIvy and the comedic potential my scenario presents? hilarious.)

Jason with Selina? (Honestly any of the kids could go to her but I like mama's boy Jay I've also seen him go to Ivy, but I don't really see that for him?) he'd be such a good thief pupil. Just scrappy street kid Jason turned international thief Stray that still goes back to the Alley to help the kids as much as he can. He'd be more cynical in this version when e finds out about his birth mom and wouldn't be as trusting so likely no Jay death.

If Tim was a rogue he'd be his own i think. Very unsocialized genius vibes (stalking as a form of affection, gets angry w bruce for any perceived unheroic behavior) Shutter or Timothy Jackson Drake totally honest business man (Chess master?)(naturally he takes over a lot of Penguin's enterprises, or perhaps others in an absolute brutal and sudden takeover). Though I do also like Riddler taking him in and them trying to outsmart each other (it's not really a contest, but Eddie gives Tim more positive attention from a parental figure than he's ever gotten in the rest of his life.) I think Myst, the creator and solver of mysteries could be a cool name for this version.

Stephanie would NOT be Cluemaster's pupil. She became Spoiler for good reason! (maybe goes to Riddler just to be petty) If she's nit a straight up vigilante, ruining the plans of the rogues, I'm not sure she'd be involved in the hero/villain dynamic at all. Maybe she shoes up on one of their doorstops and demands they train/take her in, but she just so independent I think she'd be Spoiler again. Maybe someone else can figure out how to flavor that as not a vigilante. I mean, if she's still stopping the rogues who's to say who's a vigilante and who's an anti-hero?

Cass and Damian (make me very sad) were both raised to be assassins/weapons (albeit differently) so in a universe where the kids don't become vigilantes I think they'd continue on those paths. Maybe Cass gets taken in by Lady Shiva, maybe she never escapes David Cain, maybe Cass kills her birth father (trainer, abuser) and lives the rest of her life as a shadow. In the same vein Damian has a lot of maybes surrounding him. I do think in a world where Bruce doesn't have to temper himself by caring for a kid that he wouldn't necessarily be as kind, which is crazy to think about. Maybe Talia wouldn't feel Damian would be better with his father. Maybe when she feels it's unsafe for Dami in the shadow of his Grandfather she kills her father instead of sending her son away for a (hopefully) safer life. Maybe Damian Grows up as his mother's right hand and eventual enforcer of her will before he takes over or his heir(s) take over their empire.

Duke is interesting in my proposed universe, I've killed off the Joker so Duke's parents would be fine. Maybe his powers wouldn't awaken because he's under less stress? He'd still be charismatic and a magnetic leader, though I think that gets glassed over. Capitalizing simply off of that, maybe he takes over for Sionas one day. In such a way that no one even protests the change. His organization gains a better reputation, though the shadows of it's past are just barely hidden behind Duke's magnetic light.

big believer in keiko and kuwabara being besties like. you're my best friend's best friend and instead of it being awkward they realize "hey i really like hanging out with you!" this is ofc extremely detrimental to yusuke who now has two people on his ass

they share textbooks keiko quizzes kuwabara til he drops and she asks for fitness advice. why do i think this? I simply think it'd be funny asf if Keiko randomly got abs of steel. yusuke walks in on them doing sit ups while testing each other on vocab and almost breaks into tears.

Keiko and Kuwa are there for each other when yusuke goes off doing god knows what in Makai. They know he'll be back but it can be shitty not knowing what he's doing when he'll be back. Kuwabara reassures her that Yusuke does give a shit even when he leaves and Keiko reminds Kuwabara of why he doesn't need to drop everything and join him. He'll be back he'll be back he'll be back.

Kuwabara can only make simple meals Shizuru forced him to learn and Keiko doesn't really cook even tho her parents own a restaurant so when yusuke is in the human world there's cheers and applause "finally I get to eat 🙏🏼" "aren't you guys graduating college soon how are you surviving when I'm not here" "get back in the kitchen boy" "yeah I need another bowl 😌" "im poisoning ur food"

because girls and guys apparently can't just hang out school mates are sure Keiko is dating kuwabara but some think she's with yusuke and others think the two are fighting over her and she just looks at them like they're stupid if anyone ever asks directly

as for Kuwabara nobody knows whether he has a gf or a bf cos sometimes a polite brunette with a sweet smile visits him on campus and they talk at a picnic table (she's seen hitting him sometimes tho) but other times a guy with slicked back hair and devil may care attitude like. swaggers up to kuwa when he's with some classmates and drops a homemade lunch in his lap "you forgot this dumbass" "ahh thanks yusuke you're a life saver 🥺" "just eat your food" inside is the cutest box lunch and yusuke's glare keeps the people kuwa was with from cracking jokes. kuwabara acts like this is very normal

anyway i just think it'd be cool if they hung out and yusuke was equal parts delighted and grumpy about it
